#5 Spell Slinging and the Magic Academy

Normally you’d have to go into crippling Student Loan Debt to enroll for classes at the Magic Academy, but here’s a bit of Spell Slinging 101 ’til the bank approves those loans.

When using the spells Power of Provision and Magical Manufacturing, we need to make sure to cast the spells only right before collecting goods or supplies to guarantee the most time and effect out of the spell. If you cast these spells and then start a production run, you will lose the time that it takes for the building to finish its job. Optimally, cast the spell when a long run has ended (like a 9 hour run while sleeping) that way you gain a bonus from a large amount being produced and you effectively add 9 hours to the spells duration.

There will be small amounts of time taken up by collecting goods or supplies and getting the buildings running again, but it is still wise to do shorter production runs to gain the most from the use of each spell since you get more goods from doing the shortest runs.

Though much harder to control because of the sporadic nature of neighborly help, using Power of Provision spells during a high culture surplus bonus (when the sun has poked through those clouds) gives a slight edge as well, since the culture bonus also affects the amount of supplies that you gain.

Casting Ensorcelled Endowment on a building that adds the highest possible culture is best since you get the 5% bonus added to a higher overall Culture Bonus. If you see a culture building with a sparkly haze around it while doing neighborly visits (and the player has Culture specified in their city title) that is most likely the best choice for a polishing.

A Map of the Campus
The Magic Academy allows us to put our non-boosted relics to use to create spells. The level of the Academy dictates how long each Relic will take to be processed into a spell and the amount of spells that can be queued up. It takes a lot of concentration for our poor little workers to transmogrify that raw knowledge and power into a spell.

Level 1 costs 8000 coins and 800 supplies to build. It takes four hours to complete construction. Each relic needed for a spell adds eight hours to the spells creation time.
Level 2 costs 10,000 coins and 1,000 suplies to build. The upgrade takes four hours to complete. Each relic needed for a spell adds six and a half hours to the spells creation time.
Level 3 costs 250 Diamonds and takes ten seconds  to complete. Each relic needed for a spell adds 5 hours to the spells creation time.
Level 4 costs 500 Diamonds and takes ten seconds to complete. Each relic needed for a spell adds three and a half hours to the creation time.
Level 5 costs 750 Diamonds and takes ten seconds to complete. Each relic needed for a spell adds two hours to the spells creation time.
Each level unlocks one spell queue slot.

The size of the Elven Magic Academy is 5×5 and the Human Magic Academy is 5×4. This means that the Academy is slightly more efficient for Human Players early on when the technology is unlocked.

Studying the Scrolls
spell_neighborly_help_boost_1Ensorcelled Endowment
Ensorcelled Endowment lasts for 2 days and is cast on polishable Culture Buildings. It adds 5% to your overall culture bonus, but it only adds that effect while the enchanted building is polished by a neighbor or Fellowship member. When the neighborly help bonus on the building that is enchanted wears off, the 5% bonus goes away until the building is polished again.
The spell costs one basic relic and one magic relic.

spell_knowledge_boost_1Inspiring Meditation
Inspiring Meditation is automatically cast on the Knowledge Point Bar and adds an additional 10 slots for KP storage. The duration of the spell is two days.
It has a cost of one basic relic, one crafted relic and one magic relic.

spell_good_production_boost_1Magical Manufacturing
: The Magical Manufacturing Spell lasts thirteen hours and can be cast on a goods manufactory to gain a 50% production boost on the enchanted building.
It has a cost of two crafted relics and two magic relics.

spell_supply_production_boost_1Power of Provision: The Power of Provision Spell has a duration of ten hours and can be cast on Workshops to gain a 200% production bonus from the enchanted building.
It costs one basic relic and one crafted relic.

Class Dismissed!
Making “ptew ptew ptew” noises every time you cast a spell doesn’t make the effect any more powerful, but it sure is fun! Good luck!
